How to Survive the Terrible Twos
Phew, we did it. My daughter recently turned three which means we made it out of the terrible twos alive. There were definitely times when I wasn’t sure we would get through it. Constant tantrums, in the worst of places (midway through crossing the road was one of her favourite spots). The stubbornness. Waking up in a bad mood and staying that way all day. Don’t get me wrong, these things haven’t disappeared overnight, but now that she is three, things are much calmer in our household. Here are my top tips on how to survive the terrible twos… Remember that it’s just a phase I know you might roll…

Money Saving Monday: 3 Ways I Saved Money Last Week (24/09/18)
Did everyone have a nice weekend? We had a lovely time visiting the zoo on Saturday and we spent a lovely sunny Sunday morning at one of our favourite local spots, Craigies. It is Monday once again – here’s 3 of the little things I did last week to save money. As we are flying off to sunny Spain at the end of this week, it’s a bit of a holiday special! Instead of picking up our Euros last minute at the airport, where you get a a terrible exchange rate, I pre-ordered and collected at the Post Office, saving about £10 (not much but it will pay for a…

So, I went to see my GP about my anxiety…
I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog this week. In real life, I have fallen off the radar too. This is a scary post to write. We are living of an era of increased transparency about mental health. There is a lot on social media about talking openly about the struggles we are happening, which I read and nod in agreement. Yet, here I am, a hypocrite, unsure whether or not to write about my own experience. Well, here goes: this week I finally went to see my GP about my anxiety… I have always been a worrier, but since having kids, it seems to be getting worse and…

Money Saving Monday: 3 Ways I Saved Money Last Week (17/09/18)
Monday is here once again – here’s 3 of the little things I did last week to save money: I didn’t do my usual big weekly shop last week, instead I have been running down the freezer. Turns out I have a lot of bags of frozen cauliflower stashed away so we have been enjoying warming cauliflower soup (spiced with nutmeg) – a perfect dinner now that the nights are setting in and the temperatures are dropping. The weather has turned really horrible up here… we were going to go to soft play on Wednesday but instead I spent the evening before setting up fun activities to do throughout the…

Charity Shop Haul – September 2018
Last month you might remember I posted about the bargains I had found whilst digging around the charity shops. I thought it was time that I shared with you what I have found so far this month – maybe this will encourage you to pop in to your local charity shop next time you are passing by. I just love charity shops… all the joy of buying things but with very little of the guilt! I will start off with my two favourite buys as seen in the image above: how cute is the dress on the left (£1.99)? I’m thinking it will look lovely with black tights and boots…

How to earn Money Risk-Free from Slots (thanks to Topcashback)
I have written before about how I am a big fan of Topcashback but today I wanted to tell you specifically about one of the ways I have used it to earn money, rather than save money. First of all, I will point out that I do not advocate gambling as a way to earn money – the casino always comes out on top in the long term. If you think you may have an issue with gambling, please do yourself a favour and ignore this post. The below method of earning money is risk-free but only if you stop as soon as you have gambled the minimum wager requirement. If…

Money Saving Monday: 3 Ways I Saved Money Last Week (10/09/18)
It’s Monday once again… time to reflect on three of the ways I managed to save money last week: My steam mop died a few months ago (I think it’s because I had been adding a few drops of Zoflora directly into the tank, which I’ve since read is a big no-no… oops). I have been keen to buy the Shark Klik ‘n’ Flip mop as a replacement, but couldn’t quite justify the price, even though it is gradually coming down as the months go by. Now, a steam mop isn’t something I would usually buy second hand, but I decided to have a quick look on Gumtree just in case…

Lauren is 3!
Lauren has just turned three, and I wanted to blog a little bit about my special girl. I know it’s the done thing to ask “where has the last year gone?” whenever your child has a birthday. But if you’ll allow me to be honest, I have found the terrible twos very challenging, so I can’t say the year has flown by. I am looking forward to the next year with a threenager – it may not be easier, but at least it will be different. Don’t get me wrong… she is an amazingly bright, funny, cheeky little girl but she/we have been dealing with some big emotions over the…

Where to find the Gruffalo in Scotland
We were lucky enough to head back to the Haven Craig Tara resort last weekend (see my review of our last trip) to celebrate Lauren’s 3rd birthday. Whilst we were there, we once again travelled down the coast to the amazing Culzean Castle – twice, actually. We decided to explore the wildlife garden, which we have never ventured into before… and we were surprised and delighted to encounter the Gruffalo! Lauren was even brave enough to tickle him with a feather. The National Trust for Scotland don’t seem to advertise the fact that there is a Gruffalo, which is strange as it’s such a draw for young children. It got…

Money Saving Monday: 3 Ways I Saved Money Last Week (03/09/18)
I recently started a new series of posts (see past posts here and here) in which I outline three thrifty ways in which I saved money over the last week – here’s what I did last week: We were away at the weekend, and had lunch in a restaurant on one of the days. Lauren had a kids meal of macaroni cheese – the portion size was massive so instead of it going to waste, we asked for a doggy bag. The leftovers then did both kids for dinner that night. I cancelled my Tesco delivery saver pass (a monthly payment which gives me free grocery deliveries) – now that…
