Why You Should Visit DC At Least Once

    10/11/2020 /

On a map, it’s just a dot. Surprisingly small and all too easy to map, wedged there between Maryland and Virginia. It is the rarest kind of place: a city without a state to call home, while itself being home to the spirit of an entire country. Of course, I’m talking about Washington DC. Don’t worry, I’m not going to try to convince you to start looking at Washington DC houses for sale. But I do think everyone in America should visit the place at least once. It really is a one-of-a-kind experience. Here are some of the things that make Washington DC special. The Government This might be DC’s…

Dinosaur Parks in the UK: Top Places to Visit

    28/09/2020 /

My three year old son is dinosaur-mad. He could probably give a palaeontologist a good run for their money when it comes to dinosaur facts. As such, when we are planning days out, we have a particular interest in dinosaur parks in the UK. I’ve compiled a list below of the best dinosaur-themed days out in the UK. Often the dinosaur element is just a small part of a wider experience, whereas other places are 100% dinosaur focused. Either way, you’re sure to have a roarsome time at the below attractions! Covid-19: please check with the venue’s websites about up-to-date guidelines. You often have to book in advance before visiting…

Is a Fun Family Day Out Possible for Under £20?

    14/02/2020 /

(AD: This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Morses Club) Did you know that a new £20 note is entering circulation on the 20th of February this year? I remember the first time I ever had my very own £20 note, when I received one from my Granny at Christmas, I must have been 9 or 10. I felt like a millionaire! But what can £20 buy you these days? Maybe a starter, a main and a glass of wine at a restaurant. Perhaps a new top. In brief: not very much. So is it possible to have a fun family day out for just £20? I think so!…

    Edinburgh Date Ideas

    24/10/2019 /

Back when I met my husband, around 13 years ago, if someone told you that they were registered with an online dating site you would have raised an eyebrow. Fast forward to 2019, and if you are single and looking for love, it’s probably very unlikely that you aren’t dabbling with online dating. We met each other way back then the ‘old fashioned way’ – in a bar – and over the years we have had lots of different dates in our home city of Edinburgh, so I’d like to draw on our experience and share some ideas that are a bit more unusual than dinner/drinks/a movie: Cycle the Union…

Free Entry to Edinburgh Castle (and other Historic Scotland properties) each November

    05/11/2018 /

Fancy visiting a palace or a castle this month? Did you know that Historic Scotland are giving away free entry to many of their properties over the weekend of 24th-25th November 2018 to celebrate St Andrew’s Day, including free entry to Edinburgh Castle which normally costs £17+ for an adult… if you are a family of four, entry could potentially cost £60 so it is normally an expensive day out. All the more reason to snap up some free tickets! Free entry is available for the following properties: Aberdour Castle & Gardens Arbroath Abbey Blackness Castle Bothwell Castle Caerlaverock Castle Castle Campbell & Gardens Craigmillar Castle Dallas Dhu Historic Distillery…

Where to find the Gruffalo in Scotland

    05/09/2018 /

We were lucky enough to head back to the Haven Craig Tara resort last weekend (see my review of our last trip) to celebrate Lauren’s 3rd birthday. Whilst we were there, we once again travelled down the coast to the amazing Culzean Castle – twice, actually. We decided to explore the wildlife garden, which we have never ventured into before… and we were surprised and delighted to encounter the Gruffalo! Lauren was even brave enough to tickle him with a feather. The National Trust for Scotland don’t seem to advertise the fact that there is a Gruffalo, which is strange as it’s such a draw for young children. It got…

Days out with Kids in Edinburgh on a budget

    09/07/2018 /

Looking for ideas for cheap days out with kids in Edinburgh? Here are my top five suggestions. It is definitely possible to have a fun day out with kids without breaking the budget. Craigies Farm & Farm Shop I feel like everyone who has been to Craigies raves about it – myself included! Entrance is free and there are a selection of animals to see (including Shetland ponies, pigs, goats and chickens). There is a lovely farm shop if you fancy something special for dinner or are looking for a gift for someone. I can recommend their vegetable boxes if you are planning a Sunday roast, and their gin and…

Haven Craig Tara review – what did we think?

    29/06/2018 /

Please find below my Haven Craig Tara review – hopefully it will help you make your mind up if you are considering going on holiday there. We, a family of four, travelled to the Haven Craig Tara resort in April 2018. The resort is located just south of the town of Ayr, on the west coast of Scotland. It’s around a 1 hour drive from Glasgow, 2 hours from Edinburgh. The resort consists of several hundred static caravans (plus some apartments) which surround a central entertainment/dining complex. There are also several play parks, an amusement park, a golf course, an indoor swimming pool and a sandy beach. The site overlooks…
