My Wish List for our New Kitchen Extension

We have just submitted our planning application for our new kitchen extension. It will double the floor area of our existing space and will provide us with a large kitchen, dining and entertaining space. I can’t wait! I have created a wish list of all the elements that I hope to include in the design of our new space:

A large island

I love to cook so I would love to have a large island with a hob on it and bar stools on the other side. My kids are young now, but looking to the future, I can picture them perched on the stools doing their homework whilst I cook. Or me sitting there and sipping a coffee whilst reading the Sunday paper.

A slide and hide oven

I have wanted one of these ever since I saw them on GBBO! They are incredibly practical especially since our oven will be in front of our island – it means we won’t be constantly bashing into an open oven door. Here’s a blog post with more information on the benefits of slide and hide ovens.

Aboiling water tap

This would definitely be a huge indulgence and will only be possible if we scrimp and save on other areas of the extension. But I love the idea of having instant boiling water rather than waiting for the kettle to boil. Plus, I hate clutter so one less appliance on the countertop sounds great to me.

Wood parquet flooring

I love the warmth of wooden flooring and I have my heart set on wood parquet in particular. It’s currently very fashionable but at the same time it is a classic style which will stand the test of time. If our budget allows I would love to have underfloor heating installed too.

A pantry

My husband laughs at me for this but I dream of having a double door, super-organised pantry with everything labelled and decanted into jars. I can see myself opening those doors a dozen times a day just to have a look inside because it would make me so happy.

An 8-seater dining table

Our current kitchen can only comfortably accommodate a 4-seater table. I love to ewhiskentertain and a large table would be perfect. I have a dream of hosting our family Christmas next year, it would be so lovely to be able to have relatives gathered around a table without feeling squashed in.

I’d love to hear in the comments below what other design aspects that you would incorporate into your dream kitchen!
